9th March 2009: Third Global Day of Slow Living
Pavia - February 2009 – The Art of Slow Living volountary association convene the Third Global Day of Slow Living. For all those who want to “slow down to live better” the day will be Monday 9th March 2009. Everybody knows how it's hard to slow down our everyday urban lifestyle, especially on Monday: nevertheless after Milan and New York this year location will be Tokyo. This huge city will be the most media – resounding location among many strategic points throughout the world where the events spontaneously organized through the Network will take place. All these initiatives will be reported on the website www.vivereconlentezza.it In our everyday life we have to compare with a world which constantly grows in complexity and velocity. We believe that slowing down is the first step for a better living, surpassing troubles and states of uncertainity , finding new solutions and make up for the lost confidence in the future, even during the economic crisis we are all living now. The next economic and social miracle will be made by thousands of individual actions conduced by people all around the world who believe in these principles. That's why we organize the Global Day of Slow Living, an itinerant event that every year culminates in a different city. This year our network will speak english on the web www.slowliving.info. March, 6th - The heart of Tokyo festival will beat in the Italian Culture Institute of Tokyo – Inspired by Giovanna Calvenzi, the worldwide preview of “Slow Watching, Photography and Contemplation”, a photo by GRIN – Iconographic Editor National Group, organized by Art of Slow Living association in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo thanks to his Director Umberto Donati. Daniele Dainelli will present his works, togheter with Luigi Gariglio, Claudio Gobbi, Sirio Magnabosco, Claudio Sabatino. They will present 30 unpublished pictures interpreting the concept of slowness. This itinerant photo exhibition starts on march, 6th and it will be open until march, 13th in the japanese capital. The same day, remaninig at the Italian Cultural Institute, another event: the piano teacher Maurizio Schiavo playing violin will support a Cloudmusicspotting performance between art and meteorology based on the images selected by La7 Tv's meteorologist Paolo Sottocorona. Claudio Baccarani, Economic Professor from Verona University, will meet japanese students and managers for a discussion about “Time in Business”. After this, a Slow Dialogue with Bruno Contigiani and Yamana-san, communication manager but also founder of Japan Aisaika Organization, the Adoring Husbands association. The meeting will be co-ordinated by Pio D'Emilia, italian foreign correspondent for Sky Tg and Il Manifesto in Japan. On March, 7th always in Tokyo will be the turn of piano teacher Maurizio Schiavo again performing street music, on March, 8th the Slow Marathon will “slowly” start at Gingu-bashi, on March, 9th Bruno Contigiani will activate PASSOVELOX (a sort of human speed camera for pedestrians) in the crowded subway stations of Shinjuku (2 million passengers every day) and Shibuja. Signal sticks, whistles and symbolical fines for those who walk too fast: passengers in hurry will be invited to slow down making them reflect about the Slowmandments with some jokes. The piano teacher Maurizio Schiavo will support with his violin the measured steps of the performer Alessandra Maestri. Milan, New York and others “Slow Cities” all around the world - In Milan a genuine festival will animate San Babila Square: usual fines for hasty pedestrians, Shangai,Ciclotappo and skittle game tournaments managed by Giorgio Reali and his Academy of Forgotten Game while the psychologist Luciano Di Gregorio will direct the Exchange of Secret Dreams for the all people that want to barter them. New York citizens will enjoy the pub reading by Micky Zambella, America Oggi journalist, and the performance by Julia Mandle in Union Square. Slow Cities International, from Abbiategrasso to Zibello, will shine in every Colors of Slowness; in Rome the International Woman's House will present “At the times of the women” but also the Japanese Embassy will to join the party. And then Guidonia, “One Lightyear from Rome - A Click from the World; Follonica, tales reading and time sharing with the University of Free Time organized by Auser; Pavia, a walk on the Via Francigena led and illustrated by Renata Crotti, Medieval History Professor in Pavia University; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, vodka tasting at La Dolce Vita Restaurant Pizzeria; Lyon, bed-in day from Les Amis et le Parents de Véronique. London, Carl Honoré reads pieces about slowness: “The World's Esperanto”; in Correggio, town of the Italian rockstar Ligabue, Al Simposio association organizes “Square at the Centre”. Inzago, piano readings by Enrica Borsari; Jaipur, India, itinerant theatre show performed by street's children of Ladli Lab.; Cuneo, walk in humour with Ermanno Bressy; Manila, slow menu at “La Piadina” restaurant; Amsterdam, perfonrmance by Caroline Strauss, Design Professor at Amsterdam University from New York; Mantova will inaugurate the Year of the Turtle of the Childhood Marks Festival. Last but not least many others cities all around the world will give their own spontaneous interpretations of Slow Living. (for the full adhesions and initiatives listing please refer to the “Adhesions” attachment) Previous editions of Global Day of Slow Living: Milan, February, 19th 2007 and New York, February 25th 2008 The Art of Slow Living volountary association has organized the first Global Day of Slow Living on Febraury, 19th 2007. The first edition was immediately wellcome with pleasure by citizens and media. Initiatives were numerous and variegated: for example in Milan some “Slow Cops” interacted with the pedestrians of this city, perpetually in hurry. For them a symbolical fine for walking too fast and some hint and reflections about Slow Living. Many others initiatives had been spontaneously organized in the rest of Italy, from the mule trip along the roads of Tuscany, to the Slow Marathon in Rome and the Slow Bicycle Race in Ferrara, where the winner was the one who got last the end. More than 100 events at the same time. The second edition, on February, 25th 2008, animated many cities all around the world. The usual fines for people in hurry in Union Square and another successfull edition of the Slow Marathon and more: Shangai Tournaments, video-art and electronic music happening, bed-in, tales reading, tea cerimony, wine and food evenings, concerts, discussions about Slow living for a better living, but also special lessons about business at New York University and a long day dedicated to time at the Italian Culture Institute directed by Renato Miracco. The Art of Slow Living volountary association The Art of Slow Living attends to social communication aiming worldwide people wellbeing, without forgetting environnement and the support in concrete terms to micro-project in the less advantaged countries. The association was born in autumn 2005 for the will of group of people who had enough of frenzy and velocity at all costs. One day they started to wonder some questions about their unsatisfaction for a life totally scheduled, for an existence at the mercy of too many external events Sharing these thoughts togheter they realized the the first step for improuving the quality of their life was to SLOW DOWN.
